Microsoft Exchange server enables Outlook users to work in offline mode by creating an Offline Storage Table (OST) file at user’s computer. When the user selects to work offline, an offline connection mode gets established due to which whatever changes are made in offline mode are synchronized on Exchange server when user switches to online mode. However, there are circumstances when the OST file cannot be accessed in MS Outlook, which makes the OST file unusable. For example, when an employee leaves the organization, his / her account is deleted by the administrator from Exchange Server to free up the space.

Another issue with OST file is Outlook cannot recognize this format due to which when the user tries to access the OST file with Outlook following error message appears:

“The file you choose is not an Outlook Data File. You must select a new file of this type.”
